THORNLEY, Wilson, Hormaeche, Oates and Coombs (1979) used a method of solid-phase radioimmunoassay (RIA) devised for brucella antigens (Wilson, Thornley and Coombs, 1977) to detect gonococcal antigens in a buffer system. When this test was used to detect gonococcal antigens in urine samples, many were found to be strongly inhibitory. This paper describes a study of some of the properties of the inhibitors and ways of neutralising them.
